Life's funny circle

Life goes in circles. You make friends, grow up and move out. Years later, sometimes decades later, you come in full circle. You re-meet people via email, snail mail or forums.
Is there a reason for this? Does fate play a hand? One school of thought is let the past be the past and move on. You're a different person now and so are the people, environment and memories.
I do not subscribe to that theory. Albeit, we are different and we should be since through change comes through growth. Conversely, through growth comes change. Whatever the case may be, there is a certain element in seeking out past friendships and benevolences that were part of your history.
While the commonality is the past, why not make that part of the future? Once you ingress middle age you get to a point where you want to rekindle friends. If it works out and you communicate and can relate, was it not worth it? If you find there is no basis despite trying, then what did you really lose?
I am not conveying to try to rekindle lost loves. That is an area I am not going to explore since I am happily married. Only you can ascertain if that is a smart move or not.
To reiterate, if someone from your past looks you up and you genuinely enjoyed their company, it makes sense to reciprocate.
Let me know what you think.
